It’s a 1999 Citroën Xantia Break, in bleu mauritius aka the car of my childhood (ok ours was a 97), with the 3.0 V6 and the 5-speed manual (this has to be rare as is) but the pièce de résistance HAS to be the fact that it has been retroactively upgraded to the SC.CAR active anti-roll system from the Xantia Activa sedans that was never offered in the Wagon and never used since. And it has an LPG conversion but that is less relevant.

The lack of pictures is worrying but the description is quite informative and includes the german version of “no lowballers”.

Nice car but I call CP on this one. Funny how the seller put such an emphasis on how much money he had spent on repairs and maintenence.

We know that ~€6.000 went into the LPG and SC.CAR conversions, and some of the other €9.000 was regular Hydractive maintenance and apparently a minor rebuild coinciding with the Activa conversion, which is presume is a lot more expensive than maintaining the regular old mechanical Hydropneumatic our 1.9 Diesel had. Additionally from our experience I can say that Xantias go through alternators every 150.000km. The rest are run of the middle wear items. That said factoring all of that in I’m still only at around €11.000 so what is the cause of the final €4k? It mentions that it has had some minor paintwork done a couple of times, which as we know isn’t always cheap depending on what was done and by which paint shop. Maybe those €15k total spendings since 2010 included a donor Activa that has been gutted.

That with the donor car is my guess. I’m quite puzzled by the fact that the owner could have bought at least three Xantias for the money invested.

The spirit of project cars is stronger than five perfectly well sorted identical cars.

But what about 8-10 project Xantias? Damn, so many possibilities with €15k.

If I were Reichskanzler everyone would be forced to drive Xantias. I could start a war to spread the word of 1990s Citroën. Maybe a little genocide here and there. [in Tim Curry voice] Oh I think I just wet myself, it feels rather nice!

If you should ever become whatever form of head of the state, I’ll take three Xantia Buffalos.
